I made my first film today. I’m definitely no stephen spielberg. Here is a link to it on Youtube:

I hope I just didn’t catch someone doing something illegal with my car on film. hehe.
My digital camera shoots films quite nicely. Dealing with them on the computer afterwards, is quite time consuming though.
Just saving that thing to my computer took 10 minutes.

The weather has been miserably cold. So what do you do in colorado when it is cold and snowy? You ski of course. I bolted the snow tires and wheels onto Irene, and headed for the mountains. It was a great day up there. Because of a temperature inversion, it was about 0 degrees in town and almost 30 in the mountains.
You can see in the pictures, It was really nice out.

Irene picked up some new suspension goodies to help tighen up the 18 year old suspension. The car drove quite nicely considering the original factory parts were still in place after 18 years and 175k miles. It was time for a freshen up and upgrade. In the front suspension I replaced the factory rubber parts with SuperPro polyurethane parts. Below you can see the mess I made of the old bushing trying to remove it from the control arm so that I could install the new poly part. I removed this first bushing using an air hammer. For the rest of the bushings, I used a hydraulic press. It was WAY easier with a press. The old bushings just popped right out.

Here is a shot of the lower control arm assembly from my 740 turbo. The poly parts should really help reduce some of the unwanted deflection and resulting alignment changes. I also replaced the tie rod ends and lower ball joings, but surprisingly, the factory parts showed little to no wear.

Koni sport dampers were installed all the way around. They are adjustable for rebound and have higher damping ranges that are needed for heavy spring rates. Currently I have a set of IPD springs installed. But I plan to up the rate of the springs and gain some adjustability by using a coilover setup soon.

I also upgraded the front brakes while I had everything apart. I installed a set of PBR Ultimate Ceramic brake pads in the front. I’m hoping they can take the heat of a few track days a little better than stock pads. I also installed stainless steel brake lines mad by Goodridge. My initial impression of the brake pads while driving the streets is good. They don’t feel too greasy when cold. I was concerned the braking might be weak until they warmed up. But it isn’t too bad. There is a momentary reduced brake feel for about 1/2 a second when they are really cold. But it doesn’t make me feel uncomfortable at all.

I just added another page to the site. Hit the “cars” tab above to see the latest work I have been doing to the site. I thought the wordpress blog software was going to really simplify the website creation, but it really is a huge headache. formatting the simple HTML to place pictures where you want them, and text flow is a major pain in the ass.
I’m sticking to the wordpress built pages for now, but maybe not for long.
