Painting; This is something entirely new for me

I have been working on a new hood for Irene. Its a 17lb aluminum hood from a 760 turbo diesel. It was the wrong color for my car, so I finally had a chance to use my spray gun and try to paint this sucka. I did alot of sanding, filling, priming, sanding, and more priming.
Here is the hood wearing Omni 2k filler primer. I’m wet sanding here to smooth it out.
This is the red base layer paint going into the mixing cup.
The first attempt to lay down the base coat went poorly. I had some surface contamination and the paint just beaded up in a couple spots.
So, I sanded and repaired the buggered up areas and tried again. Here it is mostly done. I like the color, but it doesn’t really match the rest of the car as much as I wanted. It was a good learning experience though, and I proved to myself that you can do reasonable paint work at home. I still have to sand some sags and runs. I laid it down way to think I guess. But the body work seemed flawless and the paint was pretty smooth.
